Doris Day Animal League gets Daisy’s Wag of Approval

The Doris Day Animal Foundation was founded more than 20 yrs ago. The main purpose of this foundation? Fighting abuse in the industry and educating the public on the hidden costs behind the mass bred puppies sold in pet shops!

They joined with the Humane Society of the United States 4 years ago and their ability to tackle these issues has expanded.

Puppy mill operators treat female dogs like breeding machines; they are to churn out liter after liter in filthy conditions. And when their breeding years are over…….do they get a comfortable place to live out the rest of their lives? No…they are killed to make room for younger more fertile dogs!

In 2009, there have been more than 3,000 dogs rescued from 16 separate mills! And in 2009, 10 states passed measures to crack down on puppy mills.

Doris Day urges you to call your state legislature and tell them how strongly you are against puppy mills. Ask them to strengthen penalties for those who breed dogs in abusive conditions and to increase the investigation of puppy mills in your state.

One phone call could change literally thousands of lives!!

Four Legged Friends Foundation gets Daisy's Wag of Approval!

Have you heard of the Four Legged Friends Foundation? If not, you really should check them out! www.flff.org

Four Legged Friends foundation was founded by Sandra Lollino. She left her meeting & event planning business to follow her passion of making a difference for people and animals. And boy has she!

As the foundation grew, Sandra stayed in contact with the welfare organizations and communities only to discover additional needs out there, which lead her to develop new programs and partner with other animal welfare non profits to help those needy animals

Some of the great programs Four Legged Friends offers: Another Sunny Day Fund, this was formed in memory of a dog named Sunny, his owner was having some financial hardships and unable to afford the vet bills. Four Legged Friends Foundation believes no one should have to fear their pet’s wellbeing because of financial circumstances! They are committed that finances should not stop a pet from getting the care it needs! The intentions for this program is to help as many animals as possible and expand the services to include veterinary payments plans and help for disabled and ill individuals in financial hardship with the daily pet care. Truly amazing work if you ask me!

Outreach for Paws was created to educate the public on animal welfare and to provide pet therapy teams to visit children, sick and seniors!

And now....It’s time for Dancing with the Stars! Um, make that Dancing with the DOGS! Yes, that’s better! Wow, what a fun event this is! Handlers create routines that fit the dog’s personality best. If you haven’t attended one of these events, I highly recommend it! It’s so much fun watching all the talented animals out there!

Last but certainly not least, Part of the Pack, one program that I truly am quite fond of! This was created as a reputable network within the community after hearing all the stories about the illegitimate organizations out there not caring for the animals properly! Did you know it’s estimated that $100 million dollars is lost annually due to unscrupulous solicitors!!! It’s just wonderful to know that there is such an organization out there like Four Legged Friends Foundation that gives a voice to all the needy animals out there!

Linda Blair World Heart Foundation gets Daisy’s Wag of Approval!

Jane Seymour, what a great person!

Despite her hectic schedule, she has found time to adopt feral cats! She brings the feral kittens to the vet for vaccinations and preventative meds and then treats them like domestic cats! She does not declaw as they are all in and outdoor cats.

She absolutely LOVES dogs but realized that her house just has too many people coming in and out every day.

Because of her great inspiring work, Jane definitely receives Daisy’s Wag of Approval!!

Lt. Nemesio Arteaga Receives Daisy's Wag of Approval!

Lt. Arteaga has been with the Pasadena Humane Society and SPCA since 1996.

After three years as a Los Angeles cop, he discovered PHSSPCA. Did you know that humane officers are armed and must meet the SAME standards as a California police officer?

On any day Lt. Arteaga will respond to various stray animal calls as well as animal abuse calls.

Originally from Mexico, Arteaga says that being an animal cop is as rewarding as it is difficult but at the end of the day he knows that he has made a difference.

Flying Paws Receives Daisy's Wag of Approval!!

Have you heard of Flying Paws? I hadn't until now! And, wow...what an awesome group!

This is a non profit organization, the volunteers are pilots who donate their time and air crafts to assist animals in crisis!

They will only transport to safe loving homes or facilities, vets. They will not transport to kill shelters, research facilities or breeders!! YAY!

Betty White receives Daisy's Wag of Approval!!

So we all know Betty White was recognized at the SAG awards for all her wonderful years in the entertainment business. But the best part for me was how SAG included her work with animals. Included in her montage, which reflected her approx 71 years in television and film, was footage of her contribution to the animal community.

White is featured in 1-800-PetMeds’ 2007 commercials. She addresses pet owners from her home about the value of using flea, tick and heart worm medications year-round. As of 2009, Betty White is the president emeritus of the Morris Animal Foundation, a national research group dedicated to improving the health of companion animals. In addition, she authored the book, “Betty White's Pet Love: How Pets Take Care of Us.”

White is a pet enthusiast and animal health advocate who works with a number of animal organizations, including the Los Angeles Zoo Commission, and Actors & Others for Animals. Her interest in animal rights and welfare began in the early 1970s, while she was both producing and hosting the syndicated series, The Pet Set, which spotlighted celebrities and their pets.

The Difference He Made by Randy Poole

Happy New Year! I know a little late but I'm just now getting back into the swing of things. I know we all support animals at different levels and in different ways and all are equally needed and important.Don't ever think for a second that only donating $5 per month to a charity is a waste of money because it adds up and fast. Most of the charities I give to are under $20 per month just so I can spread my money to more than one.
Anyway I found this poem which expresses exactly how I feel. I'm sure some of you have read it before but it was a first for me and it truly touched me so I will share it with you.

The Difference He Made By Randy Poole
Amidst the morning mist of the swift returning tide
I set out on my daily run, my walkman on my side.
Lost within my private world apart from cares and woes
I ran along the moistened shore, the sand between my toes.

In the distance, I saw a boy, as busy as can be.
He was running, stooping, picking up, and tossing in the sea.
Just what he threw, I couldn't tell, I looked as I drew near.
It seemed to be a rock or shell - as I approached him I could hear:

"Back you go, where you belong. Your safe now hurry home.
Your family's waiting for you little starfish, hurry on!"
It seemed the evening tide had washed the starfish on the shore,
And the swift receding water left a thousand there or more.

And this self-appointed savior, was trying one-by-one
To toss them back into the sea, against the racing sun.
I saw his plight was hopeless, that most of them would die.
I called out from my private world, "Hey Kid, why even try?"

"Must be at least a thousand here, strewn along the beach,
And even if you had the time, most you'll never reach.
You really think it makes a difference, to waste your time this way?"
And then I paused and waited, just to hear what he would say.

He stooped and took another, and looked me in the eye.
"It makes a difference to this one sir, this starfish will not die!"
With that, he tossed the little life, back where there was hope.
He stooped to take another. I could tell this was no joke.

The words that he spoke to me cut like a surgeon's knife.
Where I saw only numbers, he saw only life.
He didn't see the multitude of starfish on the sand.
He only saw the little life he held there in his hand.

He didn't stop to argue, to prove that he was right.
He just kept tossing starfish in the sea with all his might.
So I too stooped, and I picked up, and I tossed into the sea,
And I thought, just what a difference, that this boy has made in me.
